Phoebe Kountouris

Professor Dr. Phoebe Kountouris (PhD from the University of Cambridge) holds the chair of Sustainable Development at the School of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business and is the President-elect of the European Scientific Association of Environmental and Natural Resources Economists (EAERE), with more than 1200 contributors. more than 75 member countries. Professor Kountouris’s scientific work ranks her at 1% of women economists worldwide, with 15 books and monographs and over 250 scientific publications.

She is also the Founder and Scientific Director of the Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability (ReSEES) at the Athens University of Economics and Business, is the Director of the EIT Climate-KIC Hub Greece at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, and is the President of the Scientific Council Forest, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Center for Environmental and Economic Research (ICRE8) and Co-Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) Greece.

He has previously held academic positions at the University of Cambridge, the University of London, the University of Reading and the London School of Economics. Central to her research is the development of interdisciplinary mathematical / statistical models and empirical approaches to the transition to sustainable development. Professor Kountouris is a leader in Europe and worldwide, in the selection and acceleration of the market for innovative solutions for sustainable development. He has coordinated more than 77 interdisciplinary research and innovation projects, has given hundreds of lectures around the world, and has acted as a consultant on sustainable development and natural resource management issues at the European Commission, World Bank, EIB, EBRD, OECD, UN, NATO, WHO and other international organizations and governments, on all five continents.

Today he is a member of the Prime Ministerial Committee for the ten-year development program of Greece, as well as the committee for Climate Change of the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy. She is the Coordinator with Prof. Jeff Sachs of the UN SDSN Expert Working Group on the Transformation for the Implementation of the European Green Agreement, and has a coordinating role in the Shipping and Ports Sustainability Initiatives and the 4-seas Blue Growth. Prof. Kountouri and her remarkable interdisciplinary team have produced research and policy results that have helped shape European policies and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable Europe. For the last two decades, Prof. Kountouris has given speeches and lectures around the world and has received awards for academic excellence.
